Perhaps not realizing that his mic was open, President Obama told a fundraiser, closed-to-the-press, on Thursday night how he stood up to House Republican Speaker John Boehner during the budget battles. Obama said he pushed back hard against the GOP plan to undermine funding for the new health care law.
“I said, ‘You want to repeal health care? Got at it. We’ll have that debate,” Obama said, describing his negotiations with Speaker John Boehner. “You’re not going to be able to do that by nickel-and-diming me in the budget. You think we’re stupid?'”, reports talkingpointsmemo.com.
Obama quoted himself as telling Boehner to “Put it in a separate bill,” adding that “if you think your can overturn my veto, try it. But don’t try to sneak this through.”
