NorthStar Charter High School Closes….Another to Open

NorthStar Charter High School in Orlando will close its doors at the end of the month because of poor performance.

The Orange County School Board confirmed Tuesday the High School is being closed on June 30th for failure to meet its primary goal of meeting students’ needs in the areas of reading, math, science and writing competency, as set out in its charter.

NorthStar High School was given 90 days to appeal the school board’s recommendation to close the facility, but did not.

Late last month, the Northstar High School governing board informed that, in view of the Orange County School Board’s non-renewal of the contract, it voted to voluntarily close the school on June 30, 2012.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the School Board approved a contract for Pinecrest Creek Academy Charter School which will open in August 2012.

Pinecrest Creek Academy Charter will serve students in grades K through 5, with a maximum enrollment of 750 students. The school will be located at 3032 Monte Carlo Trail Orlando, FL 32805.
