Nikki Fried Refuses to Pledge Support to Florida Democratic Nominee

At the recent Florida Democratic primary debate, Nikki Fried refused to pledge her support to the eventual Democratic nominee for Governor on August 23rd. Charlie Crist’s campaign isn’t letting it go.

They point out how Crist was clear in his promise to support Fried should she be the nominee. “I’ll pledge to you, if you win the primary, I’ll endorse you that night. I hope you do the same for me now,” he said at the debate.

Fried refuses to answer the question.

She has been hammering Crist, a former Republican, as the two candidates spar over being pro-choice and pro-life. Fried says she is the only Democrat who can win statewide and defeat Governor Ron DeSantis.

“With her deeply disappointing refusal to endorse the eventual Democratic nominee — unless it’s her — Nikki Fried is jeopardizing the unity Democrats need to defeat Ron DeSantis in November. This is reckless rhetoric from a candidate who has proven unable and unwilling to unite our party,” said Crist spokesperson Samantha Ramirez.

With just weeks until the primary and absentee ballots arriving for Florida voters, the Democratic campaign for Governor is turning a little more negative. Uniting the party will be important if Florida Democrats plan to take down the Republican incumbent and potential future Presidential candidate.
