U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson raised another $1.8 million in the three months ending June 30 giving him just under $11 million on hand, his campaign said Wednesday.
The Democrat, who is likely to face a challenge from Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, may need the money – his campaign noted he expects to be the target of a number of Super PACs.
“Bill Nelson isn’t being challenged by Connie Mack IV. He’s under attack by a handful of billionaires operating in secret,” said Nelson’s campaign manager Marley Wilkes. “And they don’t care about Florida. For them it’s all about protecting their own self?interest in Washington.
Mack’s second quarter figures aren’t yet listed in Federal Election Commission data. Republicans Mike McCalister and Dave Weldon are also in the Republican primary.
