Marucci Guzmán received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction in the upcoming special election for Florida House District 35.
“I could not be more honored to receive the Gun Sense Candidate Distinction from Moms Demand Action,” Guzmán said. “My decision to run to represent House District 35 was driven as a mother of two young daughters. Living in a world where I find myself uttering prayers of protection when I drop my daughters off at school due to the threat of gun violence must change now.”
The Democratic candidate’s campaign believes Floridians are demanding political leaders step up in their communities to stand up to gun lobbyists and fight for common-sense gun safety measures that are proven to help keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them. The campaign said working moms like Guzmán are exactly the type of representatives that Central Florida families are counting on.
“With each legislative session in Florida, we see the approval of bills that erode our children’s rights and safety,” Guzmán continued. “Because Republican legislators in Tallahassee refuse to act on the gun violence epidemic that plagues our state and country, I see no choice but to step up, along with other parents, to change those laws myself.”
As the local Democrat continues to gain momentum, her campaign said with the added support from Moms Demand Action, they will continue to outpace and outwork the field of opponents. “We can’t wait to flip Florida House District 35 for Florida Democrats and for every family in Florida,” the campaign stated.
The date for the special election primary is November 7th for House District 35. The general has been scheduled for January 16th. Several Republicans and Democrats are already announced candidates for Florida House District 35, which includes Orange County and Osceola County.
