Florida Highway Patrol said an early morning crash on south Tropical Trail near Nora Avenue in Brevard County, has left the driver of a Mercedes dead.
Troopers said that Daniel E. Keyes, 29, of Merritt Island was heading southbound on south Tropical Trail around 12:40 am, on Tuesday morning, at a high rate of speed. Keyes approached a curve south of Nora Avenue when he lost control of his Mercedes, causing it to rotate clockwise across the roadway. The vehicle struck a large pine tree.
Keyes was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not known whether or not alcohol played a role in the crash, as toxicology results are being awaited. It is also unclear at what speed Keyes was actually traveling and whether or not he was wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation.
