Orlando Mayor Dyer has proven to be in command of local news and his own PR, but this week everything began coming unhinged.
News reports all over are covering how Dyer’s teenage son crashed into a home at 1.00 a.m. over the weekend and left the scene before police arrived. Dyer confirmed no alcohol or blood tests were taken and he said that wouldn’t have been appropriate.
Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney actually responded to the scene, raising even more questions of preferential treatment.
Eye witness reports claim several people stumbled out of the car after the crash and fled to another vehicle and drove away. Police reports are still not available.
The mayor responded in a defensive and closed way in limited comments on the matter to WFTV. This is not how Mayor Dyer wanted to begin his week. But that wouldn’t be his only test.
Meanwhile, a new community coalition group labeled as “Fight Back Coalition” sent out this teaser video raising serious questions about the Orlando April 3rd municipal elections and promising more action and truth in the following weeks. That could mean more trouble for Dyer who is still rumored to be eyeing a potential bid for Governor against Rick Scott.
At the same time Rooney was rushing to the scene of the accident involving the mayor’s son, his officers were being beaten up outside of Terrace 390 club downtown Orlando.
