Mayor Dyer, Firefighters Wear Pink on “PINKTOBER DAY”

WHAT:
Tomorrow, City of Orlando Fire Fighters will trade in their standard blue T-shirts for pink.

Every Friday in October, City of Orlando Firefighters wear pink Orlando Fire Department T-shirts to promote breast cancer awareness and tomorrow Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join them in pink as part of PINKTOBER DAY at Fire Station 1 in Downtown Orlando.

“Wearing pink tomorrow, is a unique way to show our friends, family and community that we are a part of the fight against breast cancer,” said Mayor Dyer. “As a Mayor, a husband, a son and a father, I urge all Central Floridians to talk with friends and loved ones about the importance of breast cancer screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment.”

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has officially proclaimed Friday, October 15 as “PINKTOBER DAY” in the City of Orlando and is encouraging the citizens of Orlando to demonstrate their support of breast cancer awareness by wearing pink tomorrow.  The spire of the Amway Center will light up pink on Friday, October 15 in support of the cause.

PINKTOBER DAY is an annual event in the City of Orlando in partnership with XL 106.7 and Johnny and Jayde in the Morning during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month to renew the community’s commitment to fighting breast cancer, raising awareness and supporting those affected by this disease.

“We are taking a visual public stance in the fight against breast cancer,” said Fire Chief John Miller.  “It is our hope that seeing the firefighters wearing pink shirts will bring awareness to the fight against this tragic disease.”
