“ORANGE COUNTY READS” TO HEAD START CHILDREN

On Monday October 18, 2010 Orange County Head Start will kick off the 14th Annual Guest Readers Week at the Frontline Outreach center.

Without a doubt, reading aloud is a gift you can freely give children from the day they are brought home from the hospital until the time they leave the nest. Children’s reading experts agree that reading aloud is the easiest and most effective way to turn children into lifelong readers. And it’s as much fun for adults as it is for children.

The children at Frontline Outreach will start the event off with a literacy parade to wait for the special surprise guests: Mr. and Mrs. Jones High School Cody Sheppard & Kyle Zackery that will bring the story Princess & The Frog to life. Both Cody & Kyle are honor students that enjoy reading, and have been eagerly anticipating this day since recently being crowned Queen & King at the Annual Coronation.  The Queen and King of Historical Jones High School will be dressed appropriately in their regalia when reading to the Head Start children.

Other special guests include a long list of elected officials, community advocates, Orange County Government Department & Division managers, representatives from Walt Disney World, Mr. Chester Cheetah with Frito Lay and many more.

When confirming his attendance State Attorney Lawson Lamar stated that he wanted to bring his book to life for the children and would begin preparing the week leading up to the event.

Orange County will also bring out former State Representative Bruce Antone who has chosen to read “Whatever Happened to Penny Candy”-A book on economics, presented in a fun, clear and concise method.

Don’t miss out on the fun call now to participate at one of our 19 centers. Bring your age appropriate story books, funny voices and give a child the gift of reading.

Others scheduled to read to children throughout the week are:

Orange County Commissioner Bill Segal, District 5, Jacquelyn Jenkins, Head Start Manager, Linda Weinberg, Deputy County Administrator and Orange County Lonnie Bell Director of Family Services.
