Mayor Dyer Appointed to White House Trade Post

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has been named by President Barack Obama to serve as a member of the White House Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations (ACTPN).  Dyer joins one of 30 members tasked with providing policy advice on trade matters and boosting U.S. exports.

“When ninety-five percent of the world’s customers are beyond our borders, it is crucial that we compete for that business and those jobs”, President Obama said in a statement. “And we need to do so in a way that is responsible and fair, and that levels the playing field for American workers. I look forward to the wise counsel these individuals will provide on these issues as we work together in the coming months and years.”

In reacting to his appointment, Mayor Dyer said, “It is an honor to be asked to serve in this capacity and I believe I can offer a unique voice and perspective to this committee and the President on behalf of the residents and businesses of Central Florida. This appointment also signifies Orlando’s increasingly important role in international tourism and trade.”

The Advisory Committee is the President’s premier private-sector advisory panel on international trade.  The Advisory Committee is a 45-member group appointed by the President to provide advice on matters of trade policy and related issues, including trade agreements.  THE ACTPN is under the direct supervision of U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, a Cabinet member who serves as the President’s principal trade advisor, negotiator, and spokesperson on trade issues.

Mayor Dyer was the only U.S. Mayor selected to serve on the ACTPN.

Mr. Obama will name additional members to the Advisory Committee in the coming months, the White House said.
