Man who Forgets Baby in Car Charged with Child Neglect

David Drysch - suspect

A man who left a 6-month baby in a car while he went grocery shopping, was arrested and charged with child neglect, Volusia County deputies said.

David Drysch, 30, admitted to leaving the boy in the car, but told investigators he forgot about the child while he went shopping.

Investigators said, a concerned citizen noticed the unattended child at the Publix Shopping Center parking, 915 Doyle Road, at about 8:30 a.m.  When she couldn’t get into the car to check on the crying boy, she sent her daughter into the store to have an announcement made over the loudspeaker.

Drysch told investigators when he heard the announcement over the intercom about his vehicle, he couldn’t understand why until he looked outside and suddenly remembered the child.

Investigators said, the baby boy remained unattended for at least 16 minutes.  He was unharmed and turned over to his mother who was called to the scene by deputies.

Drysch was charged with child neglect and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
