Man Struck Running to Catch LYNX Bus, Dies

An Orlando man died after being struck by the rear of a LYNX bus he was running to catch on West Oakridge Road on Thursday night, FHP said.

Alvin Matos-Dotel, 38, died after being hit by the rear of a LYNX bus when he lost his footing on Thursday, around 10:18 pm. The bus was stopped eastbound, near the right shoulder of West Oakridge Road, just east of the intersection of Texas Avenue.

A witness told troopers he exited the bus from the rear door and as the bus began to pull off, he saw the pedestrian, Matos-Dotel running in an attempt to catch the bus as it was leaving the stop.  Matos-Dotel fell and was struck by the right rear area of the bus. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

The LYNX bus was being driven by Lois S. Litherland, 57 years, who sustained no injuries as a result of the accident.

Troopers said that while the crash remains under investigation, charges are not expected.
