Man on Bicycle Fatally Struck on State Road 50, SUV Driver Flees

A bicyclist was killed on State Road 50, after he traveled into the direct path of an SUV and troopers say, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

The crash happened near Forsythe Road, just after 9:30 p.m., on Monday.

55-year-old Robert J. Tower, the bicyclist, was pronounced dead at the Orlando Regional Medical Center, after he was struck by a hit and run driver in a White SUV.

Troopers say, Tower was traveling south to north across State Road 50 at the intersection of Forsythe Road, when he was hit by the unknown White SUV that had begun to travel through the intersection.

Tower was thrown into the direct path of a second vehicle, a 2007 Hyundai driven by 34-year-old John Richards, troopers also say.

Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a White SUV and they say, charges are pending.

Anyone with information on this White SUV is asked to contact FHP or Crimeline.
