Man fails to commit suicide

On June 2, earlier today, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a telephone call from a woman in Daytona Beach requesting that we check on the well being of her former boyfriend.

The woman was apparently on the phone with a man reported to be in his late 20’s when they got into an argument.  At some point the man threatened suicide.  The woman reported hearing a gunshot over the phone after the suicide threat then nothing but an open line.

Deputies responded to the residence on 17th Street, but were unable to contact the man believed to be inside.  Because of concerns that the man was armed and suicidal the Orange County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Critical Incident Management Teams responded to the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m. to begin preparations to enter the residence and locate the man.

As the SWAT Team was preparing to enter the residence the man was located in a park near Rio Grand and Dollins at approximately 11:30 AM (City of Orlando)  The man was secured without incident or injury.
