A man who robbed a restaurant at gunpoint on West Colonial Drive then foolishly attempted to carjack a Code Enforcement Officer, is now in the Orange County Jail.
Deputies say, Orett Ricardo Wright, 22 years, walked into the Steak N Shake restaurant at 7101 West Colonial Drive around 9:51 a.m. on Monday morning and implied he had a weapon. Wright robbed the restaurant, then fled on foot.
Wright, then attempted to carjack a Code Enforcement Officer near the intersection of Balboa and West Colonial, deputies said.
Around 10:00 a.m., deputies spotted a man fitting the description of the armed robbery suspect and attempted carjacking, walking in the parking lot of the Highland Lakes Shopping Center, east of the old Service Merchandise Store, directly behind the Steak N Shake.
Wright was detained and questioned. Deputies determined that Wright committed both crimes.
Wright has been charged with armed robbery and attempted carjacking.
