A man was recently arrested for a shooting that caused serious injuries in Central Florida.
Earlier this month at 1:22am, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call reporting a female had accidentally shot herself at a residence located on Dumaine Valley Road in Riverview near Tampa.
When deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with 43-year-old Leroyce Durham, who directed them to the adult female victim who had a gunshot wound to her lower back. She was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition. During the investigation, our detectives determined that Durham shot the victim following an altercation that evening.
Durham was taken into custody without incident and faced charges of Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm and Deadly Weapon, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree Firearm – Great Bodily Harm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
“This tragic incident highlights just how quickly lives can be changed by violence,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “No one should ever fear for their life in their own home. I commend our deputies and detectives for acting quickly to arrest the suspect and begin the process of seeking justice for the victim.”
This remains an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
