A man was arrested after a stabbing in a Central Florida transient camp.
Volusia County deputies recently responded to Findley Street and Old Mission Road in New Smyrna Beach for a stabbing that occurred in a transient camp in the area.
The 33-year-old male victim was stabbed or cut 11 times in the neck and upper body.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office sergeant who was first on scene applied towels to the neck wound, and seconds later the New Smyrna Beach Police Department arrived with a trauma kit.
The suspect was still in the area. The VSO Sgt. and a NSBPD officer approached him and took him into custody without incident, recovering a folding knife with blood on it from his pocket.
VSO’s Air One transported the victim to the hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
The defendant, 27-year-old Corey Cotton, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, held in the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond according to local law enforcement.
