Orlando Commissioner Daisy Lynum (District 5) will today present the City’s Blueprint Program at a White House meeting with city leaders and National League of Cities officials.
Lynum will discuss a range of topics including the American Jobs Act, transportation, infrastructure and immigration, within the context of Orlando’s Blueprint Program.
Two years ago, Lynum had put on the table the Blueprint document when President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) proposal was first conceived. Today, she will again present the Blueprint as a workable document and make the case for greater inclusion of African-Americans and other minorities across the country when opportunities arise, particularly with regard to infrastructure jobs.
Last month, the unemployment rate in metro Orlando was a high 10.2 percent.
Nationwide, the jobless rate remained stuck at 9.1 percent in September, with unemployment among African-Americans at an alarming 16.8 percent.
