Local Lawmakers Praised for 100% ‘People First’ Voting Record

Orlando area State Representatives Joy Goff-Marcil, Anna Eskamani and Carlos Guillermo Smith are being praised by Progress Florida for their 100% “People First” voting record. Progress Florida and Florida Watch graded each Florida state legislator based on their votes on important issues that matter to Floridians: health care, the economy, public schools, affordable housing, clean energy and water, reproductive rights, the freedom to vote and more.




“Congratulations to these six Florida lawmakers for their 100% ‘People First’ voting record,” Progress Florida posted with the report card results. “They are the 2021 People’s Champion Award Winners.”

Other local notable scores on the progressive report card include State Rep. Travaris McCurdy getting close to perfect and scoring a 96%, State Rep. Geraldine Thompson and State Rep. Kamia Brown had A ratings at 92%, State Rep. Daisy Morales scored an 88%, and Republican Rene “Coach P” Plasencia had a failing score at only 29%. Winter Springs Republican David Smith and Longwood Republican Scott Plakon also failed, both scoring 23%.

State Senator Vic Torres got an A rating with a 96%. State Senator Linda Stewart, who often looks for compromise and results in Tallahassee, scored a B at 82% from the progressive organization, and State Senator Randolph Bracy also got the same 82% score. Lake Mary Republican Senator Jason Brodeur also failed with 29%.
