Leesburg Man Dies After Slamming into Rear of Log Truck

A Leesburg man was killed early on Friday morning on State Road 44, when the front of his pick-up truck struck the rear of a log truck, troopers said.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said, a truck carrying logs, driven by 40-year-old Aaron Jeffrey Todd, of Ocala, had just pulled out from a driveway and was traveling eastbound on SR 44, near Countryside Boulevard in Lake County.

75-year-old James Billings, of Leesburg, was also traveling eastbound in a 1991 Ford pick-up, on SR 44 and approaching the log truck, when he struck the rear of the log truck.

Billings was killed on the spot.

Todd sustained no injuries as a result of the crash, which occurred around 6:00 am.

Troopers said, the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
