Latino, African-American Clergy to Mobilize Voters in Massive Effort

On the only Sunday that Florida polls will be open for early voting this election cycle, faith leaders from 44 congregations in six cities will lead their congregations to early voting locations in a massive “Souls to the Polls” effort to mobilize faith voters. Organizers of the event estimate more than 2,000 faith voters – mostly African-American and Latino – will vote early as a result of the coordinated, state-wide event. The event is being organized by PICO United Florida, a network of 60 Florida congregations.

WHO:      Clergy from dozens of Latino and African-American congregations in Miami, Pensacola, Tampa, Orlando, Kissimmee, and Gainesville, including the Rev. Richard Dunn, pastor of Faith Community Baptist Church, Miami; Bishop Robert Rodriguez, Assistant to Dr. Angel Marcial, Administrative Bishop of the Church of God Southeast Hispanic Region; and the Rev. Errol Thompson, pastor of New Life Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Orlando.

WHAT:    Bus and car caravans of faith voters will travel en masse to the polls to vote early.

Tampa: Iglesia CREE, 8642 Starkey Rd, bus departs at 8:45 a.m.

Gainesville: Day Spring MBC, 1945 NE 8th Ave, bus departs 12:30 p.m.

Pensacola: Adoration for a New Beginning, 920 W. Government St., bus departs at 12:00 p.m.
