A man wanted in connection with the possession and distribution of child pornography, took his own life on Sunday, deputies said.
Polk County Sheriff’s deputies had gone to the home of David Wayne Cahill, 56, in the 6100 block of Andrea Drive, in Lakeland to serve a search warrant. Deputies had information that someone at the residence downloaded and distributed 10 files containing images of prepubescent girls, in various stages of undress.
At Cahill’s residence, deputies instructed the occupants to come to the door, but there was no response.
According to deputies, Cahill’s wife, Nell Cahill was reluctant to exit the residence. However, when she was being escorted out, that’s when deputies heard a single gunshot from the master bedroom.
David Cahill was located inside the closet with an apparent gunshot wound to his chest. A handgun was found nearby.
Deputies found dozens of portable thumb drives, several computers in an “office” nearby the master bedroom. A preliminary review revealed 12 child pornographic images on Cahill’s main computer.  Another 330,000 files were located on the same computer which have not been reviewed, deputies said.
The investigation is ongoing.
