Kissimmee Cops Participate in Kick 4 Guns Program

The Kissimmee Police Department is once again joining CRIMELINE and other local law enforcement agencies in the Annual Kicks 4 Guns Program.

On August 22, 2013, the Kissimmee Police Department, in conjunction with CRIMELINE, will host a Kicks 4 Guns drop off location. The Kicks 4 Guns program encourages citizens to drop off unwanted guns to law enforcement, with no questions asked. The Kicks 4 Guns program was originally designed to encourage citizens to trade their unwanted guns for tennis shoes. However, the program has evolved in the past few years. Citizens can now trade their guns for $50 gift cards to either Wal-Mart or Target.

The Kissimmee Police Kicks 4 Guns drop off location will be located at the corner of South John Young Parkway and John Henry Jones Blvd. in Kissimmee. Message board signs will direct citizens from North and South John Young Parkway to the drop off location. Citizens are encouraged to drop off the unwanted guns between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. or while gift card supplies last. All firearms should be unloaded and safely secured in a plastic bag and stored in the trunk of your vehicle. As you enter the drop off location, remain in your vehicle, leave the gun in your trunk and allow a Kissimmee police officer to remove it. You will receive the gift card of your choice and no questions asked. In addition, the Kissimmee Police Department will pick up guns from anyone who cannot drop them off at the Kissimmee drop off location. This feature is new to the annual program. Citizens can call 407-486-3333 to make pick up arrangements.

The gift cards were purchased with proceeds from the Kissimmee Police Department’s forfeiture fund, money seized by the Kissimmee Police Department as a result of being connected in the commission of felony crimes.

“This is a great opportunity to get rid of unwanted firearms in a safe manner,” said Chief Lee Massie.

This is the fifth year the Kissimmee Police Department has participated in the Kicks 4 Guns program which is coordinated by CRIMELINE and Real Radio 104.1. In total, the Kissimmee Police Department has collected 289 guns.
