An ex-Orlando police officer, who fatally shot his son during an argument in October 2011, walked free on Thursday, after a jury returned a not guilty verdict.
Defense attorneys for Timothy Davis, Sr., who admitted to shooting his then 22-year-old son, Timothy Davis, Jr., outside their Apopka home, were able to convince the jury that their client acted in self-defense. Davis told the court he loved his son, but feared him after he was first attacked in his home before they argued outside, according to news reports.
Home surveillance video caught Davis Sr., and Davis Jr., confronting each other outside the house. Shortly after, Davis fired two shots into his son’s chest, ending his life.
The jury spent close to five hours before returning with the non-guilty verdict.
