Chief Judge Belvin Perry had both the prosecution and defense attorneys in the Casey Anthony case back in court on Monday afternoon, to check on the progress both sides are making. Perry wants to make sure that deadlines are being met as he pushes forward toward the trial date, which is set for May 2011.
Anthony was not present at the hearing, nor was she required to be, reports cfnews13.
Meanwhile, a hearing has been set for mid-July to discuss whether or not Cindy Anthony’s infamous 911 will be introduced as evidence in the trial.
When Cindy Anthony found out that her granddaughter was missing, she placed several calls to law enforcement. In one call Cindy said, “There’s something wrong. I found my daughter’s car today, and it smells like there’s been a dead body in the damn car.”
The 911 calls have been a contentious issue between the prosecution who would like to introduce them into evidence and the Anthony defense team who would like to keep them out.
Judge Perry will listen to arguments regarding the calls, from both sides, in a hearing in July.
Anthony is charged with first degree murder in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee. She has maintained her innocence, saying that Caylee was kidnapped by a baby sitter. The toddler’s body was found several months after the child went missing, in a wooded area near the Anthony family home.
Anthony sits in the Orange County Jail awaiting trial which is expected to commence in May 2011.
