Josh Weil, a public educator and single dad, won a resounding victory in the Democratic Primary for Florida’s 6th Congressional District, and he will now face Republican State Senator Randy Fine in the general election.
This race is to replace former Congressman Michael Waltz, who officially resigned to serve as President Trump’s National Security Advisor. The general election on April 1, 2025 will be seen as an early bellwether of Democratic enthusiasm in the new Trump-administration.
Josh Weil’s campaign says this race has massive implications for Florida families and the U.S. House majority, trying to increase national attention and support from Democrats.
Democrat Weil said he dominates the Trump-endorsed Republican candidate in grassroots funding. While admitting that Fine has reported raising over 425,000, the Democratic campaign said his opponent raised that amount with huge contributions from corporations and PACs but less than $7,000 from grassroots contributors. In contrast, Josh Weil has raised over 900,000 to date, fueled by the grassroots and all without a single dollar from corporate PACs.
Weil said he has built a powerful grassroots campaign focused on protecting funding for local schools, strengthening Social Security, expanding access to high-quality, affordable healthcare, and delivering economic relief for Floridians. Weil added that he enters the general election with significant momentum and will have the resources to compete and win, having already raised well over half a million dollars in this important campaign.
“Tonight, our campaign’s victory belongs to the thousands of Floridians who believe in the power of regular people over partisan political games – and we’re just getting started,” Josh Weil said on his victory night. “I’m a public educator and single dad, so I’ve seen firsthand the struggles families across our communities face every day. Floridians need leaders who will fight to actually lower the cost of housing and groceries, invest in our schools, and expand access to good healthcare.
“But Randy Fine isn’t in it for us, he’s a career politician focused on political games and the special interests that fund his campaigns. I’m not taking money from corporate PACs or big CEOs. Whether you’re an Independent, Democrat, or Republican, you’re my neighbor, I will fight for you, and I’m asking for your vote on April 1.”
Joshua Weil is running for Congress in Florida’s Sixth Congressional District. Josh is a public educator and a single dad of two boys. He has worked in Orange County Public Schools at their Alternative Education Centers, and since 2018, with the School District of Osceola County as a secondary math and science teacher, an instructional coach, a dean of students, and an MTSS Coordinator. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Stony Brook University, a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Northwood University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Central Florida, and completed his post-grad work in Educational Leadership at Stetson University.
The Democratic congressional candidate explained that with Rep. Waltz’ resignation, the Republican House majority is currently 217-215, and would fall to 216-215 if Rep. Elise Stefanik is confirmed to serve as UN Ambassador. Trying to build more interest and attention, his campaign says a Weil victory would have significant implications for the U.S. House majority.
Josh Weil says he is a proud progressive, and he sits on the Executive Board of Progressives for Democracy in America’s Florida Chapter, a statewide organization dedicated to the cause of universal healthcare in the United States, and supporting candidates across Florida seeking to run for office at all levels of government, who are willing to openly support Medicare For All and refuse to accept corporate campaign contributions.

To the Josh Weil campaign:
STOP SENDING ME TEXTS. IT IS DISRESPECTFUL TO INCESSANTLY SEND THEM WHEN I HAVE ALREADY CONTRIBUTED AND THEN HAVE CONSISTENTLY ATTEMPTED TO OP OUT AND AM UNABLE. IT MEANS YOU LIE AND IF YOU DON’T STOP, I WILL CORIBUTE TO YOUR OPPONENT. IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED!

It can be annoying. I too sent a contribution and I don’t even live near Orlando (it’s Boca Raton for me). but this election is about more than being annoyed. Just delete, as I do, and hope that Weil can even the House so we can stop Trump and the MAGA bunch. By the way, I am sure that Weil doesn’t handle these texts… some volunteers do (or don’t) handle that stuff. Richard F. Boca
Looks like Fine is not so fine after all: Just another MAGA grifter being paid big buck bribes from billionaires. I am an octogenarian who votes for honesty and caring. Weil is honest to the core.
Josh Weil is a LIAR. I get texts, calls and mail stating Randy Fine will cancel Social Security. I emailed Josh Weil only to have him email me back pretending to not be the right Josh Weil. His campaign tactics are deceptive and gross. DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS MAN!!!
Josh Weil I would NOT vote under on any circumstances because you USE PROFANITY in your TV advertisements. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. From what I understand you do not tell the truth.
