The Jones High School Tigers recently celebrated Homecoming on their own turf for the first time in a quarter century. On Friday, September 28, students and fans welcomed the 2012 Jones High School Homecoming Court at the newly renovated athletic facility on Rio Grande Avenue across from the Jones campus.

Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Barbara Jenkins, Orlando City Commissioner Daisy Lynum, Jones High School Principal Valeria Maxwell and Orlando City Chief Administrative Officer Byron Brooks joined together mid-field for a pre-game ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The school district opted to take control of its athletic fields from the City of Orlando, which had been using and maintaining for public athletic activities. Improvements include new lighting, spectator stands, announcer’s booth, refurbished track, and a totally refurbished football field surface. As a result of the return to its own field, the school will now benefit from the proceeds it raises through athletic event ticket sales, parking, concessions, and sponsorships.

The Jones Tigers enjoyed a 34 – 27 homecoming win over the West Orange Warriors.
