Ignoring the magnitude of the impending Zika emergency, John Mica today blocked an immediate vote on legislation that would provide the resources necessary to address this public health emergency. The president has asked for $1.9 billion in emergency funding to address this crisis, but John Mica continues to refuse to allow a vote on adequate funding. With mosquito season in full swing, and already 503 Zika cases reported on the mainland of the U.S. in 44 states according to the CDC, John Mica’s refusal to act is highly dangerous.
“When John Mica complains about the inadequate response to the Zika virus, remember this day,” said Jermaine House of the DCCC. “We had a chance to make sure we were fully prepared to deal with this crisis, as mosquito season kicks into full swing, but John Mica stood up and said no with a loud, clear voice.”
The House is considering a bill that would take $622 million in funding from Ebola response and reallocate it to Zika. This is less than a third the amount deemed necessary for an adequate federal response to this health emergency.
This is the third time this vote has been held. The three votes can be found here, here and here.
The ultimate irony about these weekly hack pieces on Mica is that “West Orlando” isn’t even in the new District 7. It wasn’t in the old one either, in fact I don’t think its ever been in District 7. Can’t say I’m surprised, Washington Democrats haven’t stepped foot in Orlando except for maybe Disney World. I think thats Graysons District. Alan Grayson…….Theres a role model for Central Florida Dems!
Lol this is crazy. You also know the president already has ~600million. So now he has ~1.2 billion for Zika. And not all of the new 600 is from Ebola FYI. The Ebola find still has roughly $2 billion left.
Last time I checked, voting for additional funding is not blocking full funding
What a disgrace. I imagine his grandchildren and family are immune to mosquito bites
None of the links to the votes work. They are pointing to unrelated bills.
Sorry one of them works. The other two are pointing to unrelated bills.
