Jacobs to Host First Jobs Summit

On February, 4, West Orange County businesses and other key stakeholders will have an opportunity to share ideas on how job growth might be enhanced, when Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs kicks off the first of eight jobs summits. The summit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at Tanner Hall, 29 West Garden Avenue in Winter Garden.

Jacobs will to joined by Commissioners Scott Boyd (District 1) and Fred Brummer (District 2) in hosting the West Orange County/S.R. 429 Corridor Economic & Jobs Summit, which will focus on how government and business owners can collaborate to enhance job growth in that particular geographic region.

The planned summits come against the backdrop of an initial rountable six weeks ago, at which topics and content were discussed.  The summits will target specific industries, including tourism, healthcare, cleantech and international trade.

Regional elected officials, representatives of local Chambers of Commerce, UCF, Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, Disney Entrepreneur Center, Health Central Hospital and other organization are expected to participate in the West Orange County/S.R. 429 Corridor Economic & Jobs Summit.

In December 2010, the unemployment rate in Orange County was 11.3 percent, the Agency for Workforce Innovation reported.
