It’s O-fish-ial: Guitarfish Are Coming to SEA LIFE Orlando

Four guitarfish are coming soon to SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium’s Stingray Cove. The aptly named Gibson, Fender, Ibanez and Martin will be part of a breeding program at SEA LIFE Orlando where expert scientists will work to aid in the long-term survival of the critically-endangered species of rays. In addition to SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium’s local and global initiatives to preserve and protect the oceans and wildlife habitats, its conservation programs are dedicated to researching and executing breeding initiatives to ensure the survival of endangered species. Native to the Atlantic Ocean, guitarfish are on the brink of extinction due to overfishing and an increase in fin meat trading, for which they’re targeted.

The guitarfish will be making their grand appearance in Orlando this March. They will join Ted the Loggerhead Sea Turtle, who was recently awarded Orlando’s most loved animal, and Joy the Zebra Shark at SEA LIFE Orlando.

SEA LIFE is the world’s largest family of aquariums and includes SEA LIFE Aquariums in North America: SEA LIFE Arizona, Carlsbad, Charlotte-Concord, Dallas/Fort Worth, Kansas City, Mall of America, Michigan, New Jersey (opening soon), Orlando, and San Antonio (opening soon). From its origins in 1979 in Oban, Scotland, SEA LIFE now provides immersive marine experiences in nearly 50 locations in 17 countries around the world. “We aim share our passion for the creatures of the oceans and to make our guests fall in love with them,” the company says. In Orlando, there are nine interactive zones to explore.
