State Sen. John Thrasher could well be the next president of Florida State University.
Thrasher, 70, a Republican from St. Augustine, was nominated for the prestigious position even before he applied for the post, according to reports. And while he has deflected questions about the job, he recently submitted a formal application and has begun preparations for a three-hour on June 11, tampabay.com reports.
Critics say, given Thrasher’s lack of academic credentials, because of his political connections he has an inside track to the presidency. They also say, because Thrasher is likely a “shoo in,” other top candidates have been put off from applying for the position.
