Could a plea deal be in the works for Casey Anthony who is facing first degree murder charges in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee?
Well, for the first time, Anthony’s defense lawyer, Jose Baez answered the question concerning a plea deal for his client.
On a weekend talk show, Geraldo Rivera asked Baez why not accept a plea, given all the evidence against Casey.
Said Baez, “Well, that’s not my decision to make. Umm, that, any plea that would ever be taken would have to be taken by Casey and she would have to accept a plea, if one were offered”.
Now, this is a rather surprising statement from Baez as Casey, along with her defense team, has always maintained her innocence. George and Cindy Anthony, Casey’s parents too, seem to believe that she is innocent.
So, why even consider a plea deal, if one is offered? Umm, seems a bit strange, right?
The trouble is, the state has not put a plea deal on the table, yet!
Casey Anthony’s trial is set to start sometime in 2010. If convicted she could face the death penalty.
