Families in West Orange County have greater access to Nemours Children’s Specialty Care and Primary Care services all in one location and closer to home. Nemours recently opened a Winter Garden location at Sonata West, located at 2020 Daniels Road, Winter Garden, FL, 34787. The 12,000-square-foot medical facility offers families a range of specialty services such as: Audiology; Cardiology; Gastroenterology; Medical imaging; Neurology; Neurosurgery; Ophthalmology; Orthopedics; Otolaryngology; Pulmonology; Surgery; Urology.
In addition to these specialties, the new location includes a Nemours Children’s Primary Care practice. Board-certified pediatrician Rhonda Elton, MD, FAAP, is providing routine well- and sick-child care, immunizations and treatment of everyday bumps and bruises for children from newborn to age 18. Dr. Elton has been caring for children since 1993. Before moving to Central Florida, she provided expert care in her home state of Michigan. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
“As one of the fastest growing communities in the region, West Orange County has been a target for growth for some time, as we know we draw a number of patients and their families from this area,” said Martha McGill, Chief of Network Operations for Florida and Enterprise Vice President for Nemours Children’s Health System. “We are thrilled to expand into the Winter Garden area, bringing world-class services and specialists to local children. This new facility will help us deliver that team approach to a child’s care by providing a broad-range of specialties under one roof and making it as convenient as possible for our families.”
During a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the end of June, members of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce as well as Winter Garden City Commissioner Colin Sharman, welcomed Nemours Associates to the neighborhood. Winter Garden resident, Jeanette Brown attended the ceremony with her three children. Her daughter, 7-year-old Bella, marked the official opening of the facility by using giant red scissors to cut the ceremonial Nemours Band-Aid ribbon.
Bella was born with a complex heart condition and has been a Nemours patient most of her life. Browns’ two sons are also patients and she often travels to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Lake Nona when they need care. Now, some of those specialists will be seeing patients at the new facility. This saves Brown travel time but more importantly, she says, it gives her peace of mind.
“Just knowing there are great doctors down the street and that I can get everything in one place, is just very convenient,” said Brown.
Nemours operates a full-service, 100 bed children’s hospital with an Emergency Department in Lake Nona. Nemours also has 12 specialty care locations, 17 primary care and four urgent care locations throughout central Florida. Nemours also offers CareConnect, a 24/7/365 on-demand pediatric telehealth program, which allows families access to pediatricians through a smart phone, tablet or computer.
For seven consecutive years, Nemours has been recognized in Health Care’s Most Wired® survey, released by the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Health Forum. In 2017, The Florida Hospital Association awarded Nemours Children’s Hospital the Innovation of the Year and Leadership in Quality and Patient Safety Awards. In 2017, The Emergency Nurses Association once again recognized The Emergency Department with The Lantern Award.
