Members of the Westboro Baptist Church, an independent Baptist church, known for its extreme stance on homosexuality, announced on Thursday that they will picket the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Widely described as a hate group, the Kansas-based Church is monitored by the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center.
Headed by Fred Phelps and consisting mostly of members of his large family, the church is involved in the anti-gay movement and is known for picketing funerals and desecrating the American flag.
Edwards lost her six-year battle with breast cancer on December 7th 2010.
