Candidate Mike Greene, a 20-year-veteran of the New York Police Department, running to become the next Orange County sheriff said, if elected, he would introduce many of the crime fighting techniques used to significantly reduce crime in New York City, in Orange County.
Greene, who spoke exclusively with West Orlando News Online said, he is running for sheriff because, crime is currently up in Orange County and he is certain, based on his track record, he would be able to turn things around in a short period of time.
“I want to bring to Orange County the crime fighting strategies I personally developed, implemented and executed in New York City….that lowered crime in those targeted areas by fifty to one hundred percent,” he said.
Greene said, he has been going into the high crime areas in the county for several months to observe what’s lacking in terms of law enforcement. He is confident the crime fighting strategies he has developed and implemented successfully in New York, could be integrated here, perhaps with a little tweaking.
Noting that Orange County ranks fourth out of Florida’s 67 counties in terms of crime, and still has one of the highest crime rates nationwide, he is so confident he could reduce crime quickly, he has made a campaign promise.
“I am so confident that I am going to be able to do what I say I am going to do that, at the conclusion of my first year in office, if I don’t lower crime by at least twenty percent, I am going to voluntarily resign,” Greene said.
Greene will face off against Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings who is seeking re-election for a second term, in an upcoming primary on August 14th.
