Congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL09), today filed a complaint against Representatives Kevin McCarthy and “Trey” Gowdy with the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) of the US House of Representatives, over their use of the taxpayer-funded Select Committee on Benghazi for political purposes.

According to Grayson, Reps. McCarthy and Gowdy have used the taxpayer-funded committee to try to damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign for President, in clear violation of federal law and House rules.

On Sept. 29, on Fox News’s The Sean Hannity Show, Rep. McCarthy said, “Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable right?  We put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? ‘Cause she is untrustable. But no one would’ve known any of that had happened had we not fought and made that happen.”

“The Benghazi Committee has been a political dog-and-pony show for its entire 17-month history,” Grayson said in a statement. “It has been clear even to casual observers that the purpose of the committee was never to investigate the tragic death of four Americans in a terrorist attack; it was to attack Hillary Clinton. I am asking OCE to investigate how Reps. McCarthy and Gowdy misused $4.5 million of taxpayer money in an unscrupulous attempt to torpedo Secretary Hillary Clinton’s campaign for President.”
