Congressman Alan Grayson proudly voted in favor of the Budget Resolution Report this morning.
Congressman Grayson said, “My goals are to create and save jobs, meet human needs, and protect taxpayer money. This budget promotes those priorities. It creates a blueprint for our return to economic strength and I support it.”
Here are the top reasons Congressman Grayson voted in favor of the budget report:
· It extends the middle-class tax cuts from the Recovery Act
· It aims to make health care available and affordable to everyone
· It DOES NOT provide additional bailout money
· It allows the Space Shuttle to keep flying until 2011 if needed, thereby reducing
risk and the gap between the Shuttle and Constellation programs
· It honors our Veterans with a 12% increase in funding for veteran programs
Congressman Grayson admits the budget is not perfect.
“I am disappointed that the budget conference report does not adopt the Senate provision for transparency in the Federal Reserve. This organization has disbursed trillions of dollars of our money, without having to reveal who received the money or under what terms. I also do not agree with the amount of money allocated for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We simply cannot afford to pay for these wars anymore.” Congressman Grayson added.
The budget resolution report cuts the federal deficit by nearly two-thirds by 2013. It reinforces a commitment to statutory pay-as-you-go (or PAYGO) rules, an important tool of fiscal discipline. The plan approved by the House today also ushers in a new era of honesty and accountability in budgeting. While the previous administration masked costs like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and natural disasters to make the deficit appear smaller, President Obama and this Congress are including estimates of these costs for every year in the budget.
