Goodwill, Second Harvest Collect Over 6,500 Pounds of Food for Local Families

Goodwill and Second Harvest employees collect food donations donated during the “Fill the Need” food drive

Goodwill Industries of Central Florida recently collected more than 6,500 pounds of food during its “Fill the Need” food drive, with Second Harvest Food Bank. Residents were encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items, along with their Goodwill donations, to support Second Harvest’s “Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope” campaign, which helps feed children while school is out during the summer months.

“When children are out of school for the summer, the need for food increases – as does the need for donations,” said Dave Krepcho, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank. “Organizations like Goodwill help us ensure that no child goes hungry – and we are thankful for their partnership, contribution and commitment to fighting hunger.”

“During times of increased need, it makes sense for nonprofits to pool resources and help each other when possible. This partnership with Second Harvest was a natural fit, and one that will help feed local families,” said Bill Oakley, president and CEO for Goodwill Industries of Central Florida.

Goodwill stores and attended donation centers in Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Brevard and Volusia counties participated in the drive. To find the nearest retail center, please visit www.goodwillcfl.org.
