A man was killed on the I-4 early on Saturday morning, after he stopped to help at the scene of an accident, troopers said.
Around 2:00 a.m., James Darnell Collier, 37, of Jacksonville, was driving a tractor/trailor eastbound on I-4 near mile marker 124, when he came upon a crash.
Troopers said, Collier proceeded around the crash, pulled over and walked back to the crash scene on the emergency shoulder to assist and clear the roadway.
A Kia Sedona, driven by Dennis Ruddoi, 60, traveling eastbound encountered the crash in the roadway and swerved to the right to avoid the first crash.
Collier was struck and died on the spot. Troopers said, he was wearing a reflective vest.
Ruddoi was unhurt as a result of the crash. Toxicology results are being awaited to determine if alcohol played a role in the accident.
FHP said, the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
