On August 4th, 2008, at approximately 0420 hours, I, Deputy Michael Mandarano, responded to 7603 West Colonial Drive (7-11 Gas Stations) in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arriving at the scene, I met with the reporter, James Lee McCoy, who advised the following:
McCoy stated two unknown black males entered the store at approximately the same time. Shortly after their arrival, one of the individuals, described as a black male, about 5’9″ and 130 pounds, and wearing a red shirt, with a low cut fade and a white headband purchased a small fountain soda and paid with cash. Immediately after McCoy opened the register to complete the transaction, the second black male, described as 5’9″ and 130 pounds, with “cornrows”, and wearing a black shirt, long pants and carrying a bag of Dorito brand chips, produced a small black firearm and laid it on the counter pointed in his direction. He noted that the firearm was in his right hand.
At that time, the armed suspect stated and proceeded to remove the cash from the
drawer. The suspect then fled the business through the front (south facing) door and ran eastbound towards an unknown destination. McCoy stated that he was in fear for his life and that if he did not comply with the suspect’s demands he would be shot. McCoy estimated that there was approximately , consisting of mostly, inside the register at the time of the robbery. He completed a sworn written statement in reference to the incident and, on behalf of 7-11 Gas Station, expressed his desire for prosecution.
I then met with the witness, Cesar Dominguez, who was making a bread delivery as the suspect was fleeing the business. Dominguez advised the following in reference to the incident:
He stated he arrived at the business in order to complete a delivery and observed an unknown black male who was 5’9″ and wearing a red shirt, running eastbound around the corner of the building. He noticed that the clerk, McCoy, was yelling that they had just been robbed. Dominguez completed a sworn written statement and expressed his willingness to testify.
An Orange County K-9 track was conducted in an attempt to locate the suspect and it ended in the Woodridge Apartment Complex. The entire incident was captured via closed circuit television (CCTV) and the video footage was collected and will be submitted into evidence. The video revealed one black male, wearing a black shirt, black hat with a white stripe, blue jean shorts, and black shoes, purchasing a small soda. Immediately after the subject paid for the drink, a second black male wearing a black shirt, blue jean shorts, black shoes, with short dreadlocks or “twisties”, placed a bag of Doritos on the counter and produced a small black handgun from his right front pocket. While pointing the weapon at McCoy, the suspect reached over the counter and removed cash from the register drawer with his left hand. The subject then walked out of the business through the front door.
Finally, the scene was processed for latent prints and four latent cards were successfully lifted from the business. Additionally, the bag of Doritos which the suspect was holding was seized and will be submitted into evidence for further processing. Robbery Detective Greg McQuitter was notified of the incident and subsequently responded to the scene.
