Get out of the way: OCSO launches “Move Over” Public Awareness Campaign

moveoverfinalThe Orange County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Section and Motor Unit will be conducting a series of high visibility enforcement details on various limited access highway/toll roads within Orange County.

This enforcement is part of a national safety campaign dubbed “Move Over.. it’s the Law,” aimed at bringing awareness to the vehicular public of the Move/Over Slow Down Law and its importance as it relates to law enforcement, fire/rescues, Road Rangers, tow truck operators, utility vehicles, and sanitation trucks stopped and working on the side of the highway.

The OCSO enforcement details will run from Monday, April 6 through April 10, 2015, and occur at various times throughout the day.

This enforcement will identify drivers who fail to move over or slow down for an emergency or authorized vehicle stopped on the side of the roadway with its lights flashing as well as distracted drivers.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, more law enforcement officers in the United States died in traffic-related incidents than from any other single cause of death, including gunfire, for 14 of the last 15 years..
