Former Windermere Police Chief Faces New Charges says FDLE

Former Windermere Police Chief Daniel Saylor was slapped with six new felony charges on Tuesday, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) said.

Daniel Saylor, former Windermere Police Chief

Saylor, 44, of Sanford, was arrested in January and charged with hindering an investigation into rape allegations against a friend.

FDLE said the new charges are: bribery of a public servant, giving of unlawful compensation for official behavior, two counts of official misconduct, solicitation to commit official misconduct and solicitation to tamper with evidence.

An investigation into Saylor began in July 2010, after FDLE received information that, as Windermere Police Chief, he terminated an investigation by his department into the sexual battery of a child, to keep a friend from going to jail. The sexual battery was alleged to have been committed by Chief Saylor’s friend, Scott  Frederick Bush, 50, of Windermere,

FDLE worked with the Department of Children and Family Services and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to confirm the initial allegations.  Investigators believe that, Saylor utilized his position as chief to hinder FDLE’s investigation of the sexual battery allegations against Scott Frederick Bush. Saylor offered incentives to members of his department to influence them to provide untruthful testimony to FDLE and destroy material evidence.

Saylor, who had been Windermere’s Police Chief for over 8 years, was arrested on January 12, earlier this year.

Bush, 50 years, of Windermere, was also arrested and charged with rape of a person less than 12 years, a capital felony and lewd and lascivious acts upon a minor, a third-degree felony.

FDLE said, the additional charges announced today are related to an amended filing of the original charges and will not result in a re-arrest of Saylor.
