Former Carver Court Housing Residents Offered First Dibs

The Orlando Housing Authority (OHA) today, announced the opening of the Villas at Carver Park. The new community is a mixed-income development built on the former Carver Court public housing site in the historic Parramore neighborhood. The site is the final phase of the Carver Park project, which will anchor a total community redevelopment initiative, to be completed by the end of 2009.

Eligible residents of The Villas at Carver Park will include families currently residing in the Parramore area as well as other elderly general public households that meet both the public housing and the tax credit guidelines. “We are so excited and gratified to see former Carver Court residents return to the site as the first residents of the new Villas at Carver Park,” stated Vivian Bryant, OHA President and CEO. “They have waited over eight years to come back and are so happy.”
The spacious community will blend town homes and garden-style apartments into an area that will serve as the backbone for a neighborhood that has been hard hit by economic setbacks over the past three decades.

Funded by a federal grant, the development project is aimed at improving three core needs that all
communities rest upon:

· Physical Improvements
· Management Improvements
· Social and community services to address resident needs

“We hope that the Villas, as well as the new arena, and future projects in proximity, will infuse life back
into Parramore,” said Bryant. “The future of this area looks very positive; this will afford the area new
economic opportunities that will serve Parramore and its residents for generations to come.”
