With the deadline passed for the 2011 session, a bill to repeal a program mandating septic tank inspections appeared dead for at least a year.
The measure, which passed 110-3 in the House last month, was not taken up in the Senate by the midnight deadline, sealing its fate unless extraordinary efforts to keep in alive.
A Senate measure (SB 1698) was placed on the Senate special order calendar on Thursday but never came up.
Backers said the inspection requirement, which was crafted last year in the Senate, created an undue financial burden on septic tank owners.
The midnight deadline came and went, leaving only conforming bills and conference reports available for review, Senate President Mike Haridopolos told reporters after sending members home early Saturday morning.
