Troopers are searching for the driver of an SUV who struck and killed a pedestrian on US 1 near Cottrell Avenue in Brevard County early on Sunday morning.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said, a Toyota SUV was heading north on US 1 in the outside lane when the front of the vehicle struck 29-year-old Daniel M. Taunton, of Cocoa, just after 1:00 am. Taunton was walking east across the northbound lanes of US 1.
The unknown driver of the Toyota SUV fled the scene, continuing to travel northbound on US 1, troopers said. It is believed that the Toyota SUV is white or silver.
Taunton was taken to the Wuesthoff Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Troopers said, charges are pending against the driver of the SUV.
