Florida’s unemployment rate for August is 7.0 percent. This is down from 7.1 percent in May, June, and July 2013, and down 4.1 percentage points since December 2010.
There were 656,000 unemployed Floridians out of a labor force of 9.4 million.
The statewide unemployment rate has remained below the national average of 7.3 percent for the sixth consecutive month. Florida has created 365,500 private sector jobs since December 2010.
The unemployment rate in the Central Florida region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 6.6 percent in August 2013.
Sumter County’s unemployment rate of 5.9 percent was the lowest of the counties. The unemployment rates in the other counties were: 6.0 percent in Seminole County, 6.5 percent in Orange County and both Lake and Osceola counties’ were at 7.3 percent.
