Florida Legislators, More Noise Please!

Source: tbo.com

Washington is using outdated census data to determine the amount of federal grant monies states receive and consequently Florida is being short changed.   In fact, the outmoded formula hurt the high growth rate state, so much so that it ranked 45th in the nation.   Florida’s leaders and legislators need to be more proactive if its tax payers are not to be left ‘carrying the bag’.

Another fallout too resulted from the dividing up of the stimulus funds which left Florida dead last in terms of funds that were received.  The Wall Street Journal reported that Florida received $505 per person out of the stimulus monies for infrastructure.  This is in contrast to Wyoming, which is receiving $1,074 per person, and which had a mere 3.9 percent unemployment rate in the country.

Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink who raised the alarm in a report earlier this year said too that, Florida does not help itself either when matching funds are not put up to obtain federal monies.
