Florida Democratic Party Condemns Republican Party’s Legislative Agenda

The Florida Democratic Party condemns the Republican Party’s legislative agenda, slamming the conservative platform as “out-of-touch BS.”

Florida Democrats said Republicans are a “joke” and are ignoring the real issues while promoting political culture war issues.

“The Republican Party of Florida is a joke, and new leadership hasn’t changed anything,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. “Instead of supporting solutions to the crises raging in Florida — property insurance, affordability, climate change, healthcare access, and teacher shortages, to name a few — newly minted Chairman Evan Power and the Republican Party of Florida are still focused on their made up culture wars.”

The Republican Party of Florida has been pushing their legislative agenda through with a solid majority but they are far from done with legislation, and Democrats are highlighting ten other “priority bills” they say Republicans would like to see passed.

According to Florida Democrats, those Republican political priorities include term limits for county commissioners, ending forced use of pronouns, ending rainbow flags on government buildings, protecting historic monuments, making gold and silver legal tender in Florida, reducing minimum age for firearm purchase to 18, putting biological sex on state IDs, taking on unauthorized public camping, and pushing for a balanced federal budget and congressional term limits.

“The ‘legislative agenda’ the RPOF agreed on this weekend is absolutely absurd,” FDP Chair Fried added. “They want to criminalize homelessness in in the middle of an affordability crisis. They want to roll back Parkland-era gun safety laws just before the sixth anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas massacre. They want to eliminate all legal recognition for trans people. Advancing dangerous ideas just to appease Donald Trump does nothing to help Floridians.

“When their priorities aren’t dangerous, they’re silly. They have all the power in state government, and they continue to use it for out-of-touch BS like a war on pride flags and pronouns. Imagine the Florida we could live in if the RPOF put the same effort into fixing our state that they put into protecting the mega-wealthy and bullying the marginalized.”

Republicans in the Florida House said their budget builds on key investments and pads reserves, adding that land management, water systems, roads, fiscal conservatism are hallmarks of House budget proposal. Republicans said the Florida Senate balanced budget prioritizes infrastructure, education, tax relief, and record reserves. Despite all the politics surrounding the legislature, they also said it pays down state debt, prioritizes public schools and parental choice in education, provides historic funding to grow Florida’s health care workforce, and invests in environment and clean water.
