A Florida Congressman has introduced the No Sharia Act, which prohibits the application of Sharia in the United States where it would violate constitutional rights.
Republican U.S. Representative Randy Fine introduced the legislation and said Sharia is a threat to Western Civilization and is in direct conflict with the founding principles in the Constitution. The Florida Congressman also said the Sharia practices undercut the American values of freedom and undermine the idea of assimilation into American culture, which has been the bedrock for immigrants’ success in this country. He added it also strips away the rights of women, children, and religious minorities that are central to the American way of life.
“Let me be crystal clear: Sharia law has no place in the United States of America,” said Florida Congressman Randy Fine. “We cannot and will not allow for foreign values to overtake our country’s legal system. We’ve seen what has happened in the UK and across Europe with the spread of Sharia, and it is not an exaggeration to say it is coming here next. Well, we are not going to let that happen.”
The Republicans supporting the legislation insist America is a free country that adheres to the Constitution, in which no legal code of Sharia can establish the standards for our rights, liberties, and justice system. They described it as “landmark legislation” which ensures that no U.S. court, public agency, or legal institution can ever enforce or legitimize Sharia law when it conflicts with the U.S. Constitution.
“If you think an adolescent girl in a wedding dress next to a 50-year-old man is ‘cultural,’ you’ve lost your soul,” Republican Congressman Randy Fine continued. “This is America. We don’t stone women for speaking. We don’t hang people in the streets for the world to watch and celebrate. We don’t force little girls into marriage or mutilate their genitals in the name of religion. This is not and will never be our America, and the fact that we even have to consider passing a preemptive bill to protect our families and communities from it is disturbing, but this is the world we live in today.”
Rep. Fine said he will continue to fight to ensure that our country remains a free country.
This legislation is co-led with Texas Rep. Keith Self and cosponsored by Texas Rep. Chip Roy, and they said more cosponsors were anticipated.
Congressman Randy Fine represents Florida’s 6th Congressional District, which includes Flagler County, Lake County, Marion County, Putnam County, St. John’s County, and Volusia County.
