A fleeing suspect was arrested in Central Florida for carjacking and reckless wrong-way speeding.
According to local law enforcement, the fleeing suspect took off from Florida Highway Patrol, came into Volusia County on I-95 and later carjacked a woman in Ormond Beach. He was arrested in New Smyrna Beach after driving recklessly at high speeds and into oncoming traffic.
After the carjacking, license plate recognition gave real-time updates on the stolen car’s route. Flock cameras caught the tag, alerting law enforcement that the vehicle was eastbound on SR 44. Pursuit was authorized and units spotted the vehicle on 44, where it continued to flee, hitting estimated speeds of 137 MPH in Central Florida.
According to local law enforcement, at SR44 and Walmart, the suspect crossed over into oncoming traffic lanes, crashed, bailed out and took off running. The suspect, 41-year-old Scott Taylor, crashed into two vehicles near the I-95 overpass and while he tried to flee from law enforcement again, he was taken into custody by pursuing units before he could attempt another carjacking.
He was transported to the hospital for evaluation and faced multiple charges from FHP, Volusia Sheriff’s Office, New Smyrna Beach Police Department and Ormond Beach Police Department, as well as prior charges from Daytona Beach Police Department: Grand theft of a motor vehicle, Carjacking (two counts), Fleeing or attempting to elude, Burglary of an occupied vehicle, Battery (two counts), and False imprisonment.
